2009 Women's Trend: DHOTI PANTS

Give your hips a kick! And your legs more volume.
DHOTI pants are the best for a relaxed, summer evening.

In India, DHOTIS are men’s traditional lower wear draped and folded out of 5 yards of stretch cotton or silk. Nineties Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty flaunted these relaxed pants in a number for the mid-90s flick, Miss Bollywood.

In the 2009 runways, it was sizzlingly covetable! Out of all the 1001 new pant shapes that surfaced, the DHOTI silhouette stood out – being relaxed at the upper leg and fitted down to the ankle.

One thing though: you might mistake DHOTIS for HAREMS:
Dhotis are only loose at the upper leg, while HAREMS are airy throughout the thigh are down to ankle area, where it’s GATHERED, and makes this bubbled hem effect.

The ideal dhoti pants stops a little above the ankle. The perfect fabrics would be MUSLIN or a blend of cotton and silk as it gives a gorgeous drape.

As we see every third-world girl wearing it, it is here to stay – it’s one DARING & truly FLAMBOYANT trend, if draped well & fitted properly.

  2. I have a pair of Dhoti pants from Korea but they never seem to look right on me. :< I feel like I have to be skinny to pull them off.

  3. you don't have to be skinny 'nique to don dhotis!

BLACK is best, it shapes your lower curves. Try pairing these with fitted dark cap-sleeved, boat-neck top and THEN cover-up with a crisp (let's say) white or cream blazer. Keep embellishments to the lEAST.

    much luv

  4. Oh my Dhoti's definitely black--I tried pairing it off with a slightly loose tank top for a bit of a rugged feel but it didn't look nice proportion-wise. I'll try a fitted dark cap-sleeved though I'm concerned that it might emphasize my arms! I'm excited to try this out, thanks for the advice Yves! <3
